Liberals all talk and no action on Henderson investment

WA shipbuilders are still waiting for Malcolm Turnbull to deliver on the $100 million infrastructure commitment for Henderson that he made over 14 months ago.

On the eve of the state election in February 2017 the Prime Minister told Western Australians that:

“We’re backing them. We’re putting in here $100 million over the next few years to get ready for the Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV).”

But with the multibillion-dollar OPV build less than two years away the Australian Marine Complex in Henderson is yet to see any of Malcolm Turnbull’s promised $100 million.

This shows just how shallow the Liberals’ election commitments are, they will promise anything if they think it will win them government.

Even when Labor drags them, kicking and screaming, to make an announcement, they still struggle to deliver.

This Government has presided over the loss of more than 2000 Australian shipbuilding jobs and failed to invest in Australian skills and jobs for major procurement decisions.

The Liberals must stand by their commitment to the Henderson site and develop domestic design and manufacturing capabilities for this strategic industry.
