KATE Taylor is already excelling at one of the fastest growing sports in the world, but she has taken her competitiveness to the next level thanks to a Federal grant.

The 13-year-old East Fremantle BMX rider used the Local Sporting Champions funding to help her get to the 2017 BMX National Championships in Brisbane, which kicks off on Sunday.

Kate, who was one of 10 young sportspeople to receive a grant, said she was also hoping to get to the World Championships held in the United States in July.

“BMX is my passion and I am very committed to achieving my goal,” she said.

Fremantle MHR Josh Wilson said the federal grant helped young sporting talent with their expenses when competing at an elite level, allowing them to reach for their goals.

Applications for the next round of Local Sporting Champions funding are open until June 30.
