Today’s announcement of another waste recovery plant closure reinforces the severity of the current waste crisis and shows that the Morrison government’s response has been too little, too late.

New plan needed for environment

Australia needs an environment policy with a clear priority on steeply improving environmental outcomes, not further bending our landscape and its creatures into profit-yielding stress positions.

A report commissioned by the Department of the Environment and Energy has highlighted the seriousness of Australia’s waste crisis, and the inadequacy of the government’s response.

The Government promised the review would be completed by mid-2018. Yet under the leadership of three different Liberal environment ministers, this important direction-setting work continues to drag on.

The Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) has confirmed that the Morrison Government’s $100 million “Recycling Investment Fund” is nothing more than a 7-month-old policy announcement that has since gathered dust.
