End is nigh for live animal export trade
Wednesday, 05 December 2018 10:55The problem with this place is that we are playing games when everyone here knows that there is majority support for the change that needs to be made. This industry is coming to an end. It is a doomed industry, it's a deeply flawed industry and it is coming to an end. The responsible thing to do for farmers and truck drivers and people on the land is to manage that transition and support those people.
Government fail: housing affordability and homelessness
Tuesday, 27 November 2018 19:22Mr Wilson (7:22pm) — In the time that remains, I want to say some pretty clear and simple things about the Social Services Legislation Amendment (Housing Affordability) Bill 2017. It's not impressive in itself. I don't think there's much evidence that it's going to do anything to address homelessness or help people at risk of homelessness in this country. It points to the glaring absence of policy and program action by the government in this space.
Environmental protection and transport clarity
Wednesday, 07 November 2018 17:33Alcoa workers' strike
Monday, 17 September 2018 19:10Mr Wilson (7:10pm) — I'm very glad to speak on this motion, because the unacceptable situation being endured by 1,600 Alcoa workers in Western Australia is a big issue in my part of the world. It speaks to an issue of national importance, and it speaks to the need to change the rules.
Trade agreements need much more scrutiny
Thursday, 13 September 2018 13:17Mr Wilson (1:17pm) — I speak in support of the amendment to the Customs Amendment (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership Implementation) Bill 2018. The TPP-11 is not a great trade agreement, certainly not from Australia's point of view. If you want to understand why it's not a great deal, you only need to look at the process; it was badly done.
