    We are here to look hard at inequality and social exclusion, to look hard at injustice and environmental damage and to do something about it, with our touchstone being the circumstances of people who are trapped by severe disadvantage, as we seek to help those who stand furthest from the light.

    The national network of marine protected areas that Labor created in partnership with the Australian community established a world-leading framework to ensure our oceans continue to be the life-blood of this planet. That network is critical to maintaining the incredible biodiversity of our oceans and it is critical to the health of our fisheries.

    ABC staff are being asked to maintain an incredible tradition of service and quality while made subject to relentless restructuring, redeployment and job losses. They are regularly under fire from those who don't like independent journalism, who don't like scrutiny, who don't believe in climate change and who think there shouldn't be a fair examination of those in privilege and power, and yet they push on doing work that is intrinsic to who we are and intrinsic to how this nation works at its best.

 
  • Josh Wilson is the 11th Federal Member for Fremantle.

    Josh grew up in Freo and for more than a decade has made a significant contribution through public and community service.

    Prior to entering parliament Josh was a Councillor and then Deputy Mayor of the City of Fremantle (2009-16), where he led work on economic development and revitalisation, initiated the ‘Fremantle Forever’ campaign against local government amalgamations, and introduced a successful Indigenous employment target. He was previously the Chief of Staff to Hon. Melissa Parke, including the period in which Ms Parke was the Minister for International Development.
